Guest Blog - Nurturing the Mother: Redefining Postpartum Care with The SABI
By Anna Cave Bigley
Postpartum Depression (PPD) affects at least 15% of new mothers, though the true number is likely higher, the so-called “baby blues” touches up to 80% of women. It's often shrouded in silence and stigma, leaving mothers to feel isolated and unprepared for its challenges. With my first child, I was blindsided by it. I felt ungrateful, lost, and overwhelmed by emotions I didn’t know how to process. I survived, yes, but I suffered, too.
With my second child, I was determined to rewrite the narrative. I knew I couldn’t change the hormonal shifts or the exhaustion, but I could change how I approached my postpartum journey. I built a toolbox of self-care rituals, a different support structure and leaned into the lessons learned from my first experience. At the heart of this journey has been The SABI’s Nurtured Mother Set-a collection I created to provide the care, comfort, and nourishment I wish I’d had the first time around.
The Power of Preparation: Building My Team and Rituals
With my second postpartum, I started by creating a team - my support system of friends, family, and professionals who could help me navigate the physical and emotional shifts. But support is only part of the equation. I also committed to daily rituals that prioritised me. These moments of self-care became non-negotiable, whether it was five minutes in the evening to use a soothing herbal infusion or a simple congratulation to myself for getting through the day, I made a point of doing it and remembering: I am the only one who can rescue me
The Nurtured Mother Set became a cornerstone of these rituals. Every product in the set is designed to honour and support a mother’s healing journey. From herbal blends that soothe hormonal dips to nourishing skincare that helps you reconnect with your body, these aren’t just products - they’re acts of self-love in a time when mothers often forget to care for themselves.
How The Nurtured Mother Set Changed My Experience
During my first postpartum, I ignored the warning signs of PPD. I dismissed the sleepless nights, memory loss, and intrusive thoughts as “normal” parts of motherhood. I didn’t give myself permission to ask for help or even acknowledge how deeply I was struggling.
This time, I listened. I watched for the early signs of burnout and leaned into tools that made a difference. The Nurtured Mother Set allowed me to take small but impactful steps every day.
Recovery after childbirth is both physical, hormonal and emotional, and Mama Recover Herbata became my lifeline. This restorative blend of nettle and raspberry leaf helped replenish some of the nutrients I’d lost through birth and breastfeeding and supported my body’s natural healing process with adaptogens to re-balance and combat inflammation after birth. Each cup felt like a warm embrace, reminding me to slow down and honour the immense changes my body had undergone. It didn’t just help me physically - it provided a sense of emotional stability, encouraging me to take the time I needed to recover without guilt.
Navigating postpartum also brought unexpected changes to my skin. Dryness, sensitivity, and hormonal fluctuations left me feeling disconnected from my body. The Prebiotic Face & Body Cream became my daily reminder to reconnect and nurture myself. Its lightweight yet deeply hydrating formula felt like a balm and embrace for my skin and spirit, soothing irritation and helping restore my natural glow. The gentle notes of grapefruit and sage turned this small act of care into a moment of pure self-indulgence, leaving me feeling refreshed and grounded. I looked forward to it!
Amid the chaos, the Face & Space Mist provided an instant reset whenever I needed it. Whether spritzed on my face during a mid-afternoon slump or used to freshen up my space, its blend of rose and sage brought a wave of calm and clarity to my day. This simple ritual became my secret weapon for navigating the overwhelming moments of motherhood, transforming a busy and cluttered environment into a sanctuary where I could breathe and refocus.
Finally, the Active Nutrient Serum was my quiet act of self-care at the end of each day. As I massaged it into my skin, its antioxidant-rich formula worked to revitalise my complexion, combatting the effects of sleepless nights and hormonal changes. This ritual wasn’t just about my skin -it was about reclaiming a sense of self amidst the demands of motherhood. In those brief, quiet moments, I reminded myself that I deserved care too, and that by nurturing myself, I could show up stronger and more present for my family.
These rituals reminded me that I am worthy of care, not just for the sake of my recovery, but for the joy and balance it brought into my life. For any mother navigating the postpartum journey, this set is more than a collection of products-it’s an invitation to prioritise yourself, embrace your healing, and rediscover the strength and beauty within you. We designed it with your healing and best self in mind.
Why Postpartum Care Matters
Postpartum isn’t just about the baby, it’s about the mother, too. We prepare for the type of birth we want and the perfect nursery design, but so often, we neglect to prepare for the monumental shift that happens to a mother’s mind, body, and identity in the year (or more) that follows. The postpartum period can be blissful, but it can also be disorienting, exhausting, and lonely. Recognising this duality is essential, and supporting mothers through it should be a priority, not an afterthought.
The SABI products were born out of this understanding. It’s an invitation to mothers everywhere to care for themselves as deeply as they care for their babies. It’s a reminder that your healing matters and that you deserve moments of peace and nourishment in this chaotic, beautiful time.
Strength in Vulnerability: A New Narrative for Motherhood
PPD forced me to confront the power of my hormones, the cracks in our societal support systems, and my own silence in the face of struggle. But it also pushed me to create something meaningful. The SABI exists to support women in every stage of their hormonal journey-from the highs of pregnancy to the lows of postpartum and beyond.
This is my way of saying: you are not alone. Your body, mind, and spirit deserve care. By taking small steps to prioritise your wellbeing, you can navigate the postpartum period with more strength, balance, and grace for yourself.
Motherhood is a journey of transformation, and there is strength in the vulnerability it brings. Together, we can shift the narrative from one of silence and shame to one of empowerment, understanding, and care. You are worthy of love, support, and healing-not just for your baby, but for yourself.
Let this be the beginning of a kinder, more supported postpartum for you and all the mothers to come.
Nurture yourself as deeply as you nurture your child.
With love,
Anna
